Review of the Week: Swiss Hotel bed and breakfast in Ottawa, Ontario in Canada

July 29, 2011 11:15 by Emily

Swiss Hotel is an adults-only, European-style inn located in the historic heart of Ottawa, Canada. It is within walking distance of shopping streets, museums, and historic sights. It is also very close to the Ottawa Convention Center.

The inn was built in 1872 from limestone in a 19th Century Vernacular Classical Revival. However, it has been totally renovated, and each room is decorated in a very modern style. All guest rooms have eco-friendly private baths, free Wi-Fi, and an Apple iPad.

This review is from a stay in February 2011 and gave the inn a perfect rating:

"Best Inn in Ottawa"
This is an absolutely wonderful inn that will enhance your experience in Ottawa. There's nothing better than to be out all day touring Ottawa, whether you want to skate on the Rideau Canal in the winter (which is within a very short walking distance) or shop the Byward Market; coming back to a place which is comfortable and homey is the ultimate experience. I've been coming here since Swiss Inn was called Gasthaus Switzerland. Same hosts Josef and Sabina are always most gracious and make you feel so very welcome. The rooms are extremely clean. The bed comfortable (they just renovated in 2010 so the rooms are new). I love the decor...modern but very warm and inviting. An optional breakfast is served in the morning with all sorts of healthy choices. Try the Swiss Muesli -- delicious! All in all, I highly recommend staying here on your next trip to Ottawa. I assure you, you won't be disappointed.

Review of the Week: Turtle Inn Bed and Breakfast in Toronto, Canada

January 28, 2011 13:55 by Emily

Turtle Inn Bed and Breakfast is located in Toronto, Ontario in Canada, and it maintains an overall perfect rating on BedandBreakfast.com based on 25 reviews. The inn is just minutes from the beaches of Lake Ontario and is in a convenient but calm part of town.

While many bed and breakfasts are geared toward romantic getaways and are adults-only, some inns can be very kid-friendly and great for families. This perfect review was left for a stay in June 2010 with a family that found the inn perfect for their needs.

"A Taste of Europe in Toronto - Toddler Friendly!"
We brought our 2-year-old with us to the Turtle Inn, somewhat nervous about bringing a toddler to a B&B. To our delight he was warmly welcomed, fell in love with the dogs, and became fast friends with the owners. Adults will have similar experiences! The house looks small from the streetfront, but is spacious and modern. The proprietor is a superb chef, and we licked our lips (and sharpened our wits) in anticipation of each morning's breakfast of superb food and wonderful conversations. (I still miss the home-baked croissants...yummy!) The atmosphere feels very European and progressive, so if you are looking for the Canadian Mountie and Lumberjack experience, this may not be your best choice. However, if superb restaurant advice, a great location, and classy accommodations at a superb price are what you are after, you can't go wrong at the Turtle Inn. You'd be a fool to stay at a hotel in Toronto.
