Rose On The Road – Spring Lake, NJ

Beach and Boardwalk in Spring Lake

It’s the time of year when my toes are starting to long for sandy beaches, and while it is still too early for that ocean dip here in the northeast, a trip to Spring Lake to walk, ride a bike or simply sit and read by sea is not out of the question.

Having stayed at many of the town’s B&Bs while working on the BedandBreakfast.com Report, I discovered that while Spring Lake is famous for its beautiful and clean beaches and concession free boardwalk, summer is not the only time to visit. It's a village for all seasons. In spring you can enjoy the flowers, walk across the wooden bridges of the “lakes,” view the beautiful homes, churches, mansions and B&Bs that surround the lakes and line Ocean Avenue, visit the village shops and enjoy dining at the area restaurants.

I recently received the latest issue of the Historic Inns of Spring Lake newsletter, which contained information about the upcoming “Authors and Inns” yearly event on May 17. This event has been honored with the Governor’s Tourism Award. Well-known chefs from New York City and Philadelphia as well as culinary media personalities will be participating in book signings. Additionally, guests staying at any of the inns for the Friday/Saturday weekend will receive a complimentary Sunday tour ticket as well as admission to the private culinary presentations on Saturday, May 16. Inn guests ONLY are invited to spend an hour with several of the authors as they prepare a recipe from their book. This is a popular event, so I suggest you book early.
