Started in 2008, Passports With Purpose began as a way for the travel industry to give back. Each year, the founders choose one charity to help. Then travel bloggers each find a company willing to donate a good (mostly travel-related), service, or vacation. The public then bids on these in an auction. One bid costs $10, and the proceeds go directly to the cause. This year, the proceeds go toward building wells in Haiti.

Each year, the stakes are raised. Two years ago, the event raised $60,000 ($10,000 over their goal) to house 25 families in India. In 2011, they raised $90,000 (also $10,000 over their goal) to build two libraries in Zambia. This year, the goal is to reach $100,000.

Beth Colt, innkeeper at the Woods Hole Inn on Cape Cod, posted a photo on her Facebook page last year of a red chair on a frozen pond behind her house. That photo and a later one shot by California photographer Julie Ann Cromer were beautiful images were enjoyed by many. So this fall, the famous Red Chair is crisscrossing New England, staying at inns and B&Bs.

World travelers themselves, innkeepers Brad and Ilja Chapman of Adair Country Inn & Restaurant in Bethlehem, New Hampshire wanted to participate. They welcomed the well-traveled Red Chair to their intimate and romantic inn for a late October visit (October 22-25).

The innkeepers took the chair all over town for sightseeing and fun activities, from visiting local restaurants to a Christmas tree fam to hanging out in the inn's own kitchen for breakfast.

After a fun visit at the Adair Country Inn, the Red Chair headed off to the Inn at the Round Barn Farm in Vermont. All three of those participating properties are members of the BedandBreakfast.com Diamond Collection.

The following review was recently left for Glenlaurel Inn, a BedandBreakfast.com Diamond Collection member in Rockbridge, Ohio. The inn sits on a 140-acre estate that includes private walking trails, rock cliffs, waterfalls, and private gorge trails. Glenlaurel Inn consists of two guestrooms, two suites, and a nearby carriage house with a guest room and a suite. There is also an on-site spa, and you can dine on a gourmet, candlelit six- or seven-course dinner.

"An incredible getaway"
The best kept secret, (but it shouldn't be a secret) in the beautiful hills of Ohio. The entire package from the grounds to the spacious accommodations to the incredible gourmet dining is perfect. You would never think you are in Ohio, rather a resort area in Europe - how about Scotland! The setting is perfect for couples and my wife and I have celebrated three anniversaries there now...and it is just as wonderful in the winter as the summer. And all of the details are thought of to make your stay quite enjoyable. (P.S. You have to hike down in the gorge on the property and be sure to visit Cantwell Cliffs nearby.) Kudos to Chef Eric for the unbelievable dining! Bravo!
