Tropical Inn in Key West Begins New 'Love Locks' Tradition

June 4, 2012 22:54 by Emily

In Europe, there is a tradition of using "love locks" to express your devotion to your partner. You take a padlock and attach it to a gate, fence, or other public place and leave it there to forever capture that moment together. The tradition actually goes back to China.

The innkeepers at Tropical Inn, a Diamond Collection property in Key West, Florida were inspired by this tradition when they learned about it from one of their Czech employees. They had planted a ficus tree that had outgrown its space, so they decided to relocate it and instead replace it with a piece of found art. They loved the idea of love locks and decided to replace the tree with their very own place for couples on a romantic getaway at the inn to attach them.

According to the innkeepers, "From now on, guests at the inn are invited to symbolize their own everlasting love by attaching a lock to the newly renovated bird cage that houses a pair of 'flying pigs'... to replace the banyan tree!" You can see it pictured to the right.

Guests are encouraged to bring a lock with them--the more distinct or vintage, the better, they say. The innkeepers have pens you can use to mark your names on them. Alternatively, they suggest going to a pet store and getting a heart-shaped tag engraved with your name and dates, which can be attached to the lock before you close it.

Make your romantic getaway in Key West even more romantic by partaking in this symbolic tradition at Tropical Inn!

Review of the Week: Hoyt House Bed & Breakfast Inn in Amelia Island, FL

March 13, 2012 20:23 by Emily

Hoyt House Bed & Breakfast Inn in Amelia Island, FL is a Diamond Collection member with an overall perfect rating on BedandBreakfast.com. It is located in the heart of the historic district, within walking distance of plentiful restaurants and shops.

The inn offers amenities such as a heated pool and spa, a full English pub and martini bar, and a three-course gourmet breakfast using organic and farmer's market ingredients. You can add on dinner in their private dining room. Originally built in 1905, this restored inn has 10 spacious guest rooms.

The following perfectly-rated review was left for a stay earlier this month.

"Exceptional hospitality, incredibily delicious breakfast"
If you want to truly EXPERIENCE Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island, Hoyt House B&B is a MUST. To the first point of contact, to our final goodbye's, Myrta and Deborah, the innkeepers, went above and beyond to make us feel special and cared for. The 3-course breakfast was beyond anything I have ever experienced, and I travelled the world for a living. The comfort of the beds and the appointments of the rooms is more than you would expect at any 5-star resort. This was not just an ordinary vacation, this was a treasured memory that I will share with anyone that asks. Thank you Myrta and Deborah, I will be back.

Review of the Week: Casa Grandview in West Palm Beach, FL

June 9, 2011 01:09 by Emily

B&Bs are ideal for regular romantic getaways, but they are also perfect spots for weddings and elopements. Below is a review from a couple who got eloped at Casa Grandview, a BedandBreakfast.com Diamond Collection property located in West Palm Beach, Florida. The renovated 1925 Mediterranean Revival house has five luxurious guestrooms and suites, plus 12 cottages and art deco cabana suites. The inn has a tropical but modern feel.

This perfect review is from an elopement and stay in April 2011.

"Perfect Elopement!"
I'm not sure which was the better of two EXCELLENT decisions: to elope, or to elope to Casa Grandview! We are inexperienced travelers, have incredibly tight work schedules, and had only a couple of weeks to make all the arrangements. After narrowing down our destination to South Florida (we're having a cold snowy spring in Wisconsin and we wanted OUT!), we decided to search for the highest rated places, as well as something quiet and maybe a bit different..It seemed too good to be true, but it's ALL TRUE! Not only did the proprietors, Cheryl and Kirk, take care of us as promised in the website, they went the extra miles for us regarding local help with wedding hair, photography, even the officiant! We stayed in Sundance North and it was perfect in all ways. I lived for many years in Santa Barbara and this bungalow brought back memories; and we are renovating a 1920 California Craftsman at present so it was even MORE fun to spend a few days where everything was done to the last detail in similar architecture. Scrumptious breakfasts on the main house patio lined with homegrown culinary herbs (hot-from-oven croissant and lobster omelet our last day there), gorgeous pools with hot Jacuzzi too, effortless gracious atmosphere inside and out, just peace and quiet and romance and rest. The landscaping makes each house seem a world unto itself. My new brother-in-law visited us there one evening; he's a professional landscaper in Palm Beach Gardens and he was just floored by the quality and design of the grounds. "Come as a guest, leave as a friend" is the TRUTH! Hard to put into words how exceptional it was.
