Started in 2008, Passports With Purpose began as a way for the travel industry to give back. Each year, the founders choose one charity to help. Then travel bloggers each find a company willing to donate a good (mostly travel-related), service, or vacation. The public then bids on these in an auction. One bid costs $10, and the proceeds go directly to the cause. This year, the proceeds go toward building wells in Haiti.
Each year, the stakes are raised. Two years ago, the event raised $60,000 ($10,000 over their goal) to house 25 families in India. In 2011, they raised $90,000 (also $10,000 over their goal) to build two libraries in Zambia. This year, the goal is to reach $100,000.
Both last year and this year, we've donated a $500 BedandBreakfast.com gift card to the auction. We encourage you to visit the auction and make a bid, whether for our gift card or another prize. Not only are you helping bring fresh water to Haiti, but you are entering to win your choice of amazing travel prizes.
Get involved and bid now! The auction ends December 11.
