Rose On The Road - Williams AZ

October 3, 2008 21:39 by Rose

We recently stopped in Williams while visiting the Grand Canyon and were directed to the Historic Rte. 66 loop for several restaurant choices.  This section of historic Rte. 66 has many restored businesses including restaurants, saloons, motels, hotels and shops.  It’s a fun area – Pancho McGillicuddy’s has outdoor dining with a singing cowboy who entertained while the BBQ was cooking on the smoker in the courtyard; a 50’s theme restaurant called Cruiser’s Rte 66 Cafe appealed to families; a restored Rte 66 gas station is now a museum with the vintage gas pumps, signs and even cars and the Canyon Club saloon was jumping.  We had dinner at the Pine Country Restaurant, a local cafe that is known for their homemade pies and the assortment was unreal.  There was even a sugar-free layered chocolate and banana cream pie – HEAVEN!    My husband and I enjoyed the soup and taco salads we had for dinner..

While in town we visited the Red Garter Bed and Bakery.  Have you ever wanted to visit a bordello?   Or thought about spending the night in one?  If so, then a visit to the Red Garter B&B in Williams should be on your list of places to lay your head.   The red lights still hang from building’s roof!   We spoke with current guests as they were enjoying evening coffee and dessert in the bakery and they were loving’ it.   The Red Garter is popular so be sure to book ahead.

The B&B is directly across the street from the Grand Canyon Railroad Depot and in the evening a freight train or two will run on the nearby tracks which adds to the whole Rte. 66 experience.
