For dog lovers, one of the hardest parts of traveling is leaving our pups behind. To us, they’re family, and we think they deserve a vacation, too! It can be hard to find accommodations that accept pets, so many of us are forced to shell out loads of cash for a boarder or guilt a friend or family member into dog-sitting for us. Fortunately, many B&Bs happily welcome our furry friends and allow us to vacation without leaving our snuggle buddies at home.
One way to find dog-friendly B&Bs is to use our detailed search function to filter by places that accept pets. Note that some properties have weight or breed restrictions, so be sure to read their pet policies carefully.
Here are three of the most dog-friendly B&Bs around:
The innkeepers at Magnolia Plantation in Gainsville, Florida know a thing or two about dogs; their 11-year-old collie, Lacey, resides at the B&B. They are currently offering a dog-friendly special: You will get 10 percent off for bringing your dog, and an additional one percent for each year old he or she is. The inn is nearby many local dog-friendly locations, such as Books Inc. and Book Lover's Cafe and the Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail. The innkeepers welcome other pets upon approval.
The Lazy Dog Inn is another hotspot for dog lovers. Located in Chocorua, New Hampshire, a getaway at this B&B is just as much about you as it is your dog. There are no weight or breed restrictions—they welcome all canines. The innkeepers own two Golden Retrievers, Meghan and Molly, and like to take them swimming and hiking in local lakes and trails, so they are no strangers to puppy love. According to the innkeepers, “You’ll find we love your dog as much as you do.” It doesn’t get any more dog-friendly than this!
The Homestead at Rehoboth in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is another haven for vacationing dogs. Winner of the 2009-2010 BedandBreakfast.com Award for "Best Pet Friendly Inn," your pup will be in doggie heaven here. The B&B features a fenced-in pet play/walk area in addition to a pet shower to rinse off after a trip to the nearby beach. The innkeepers will also provide you with a list of pet-friendly restaurants so your pal doesn’t have to stay home alone.
