Recipe of the Week: Morocco-tini-- A Sake-Based Martini!

This creative beverage recipe is from the innkeepers at El Morocco Inn & Spa in Desert Hot Springs, CA. According to the innkeepers, this drink is "perfect for all occasions! A genuine party pleaser...lots of our guests call us for this recipe during their parties at home!" The 15-room inn is decorated with Moroccan flavor, featuring imported furnishings and exotic textiles. It also has two spring-fed pools of healing warm mineral water in addition to a sauna. Pictured below is the inn's Hookah Bar, where complimentary Morocco-tinis and wine are served at the nightly happy hours.

Prep time:  5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1/3 cup cranberry juice
  • dash sweet vermouth
  • 1/3 cup lemon seltzer (or just use Sprite!)
  • 1/3 cup sake
  • 1/2 slice of an orange
  • 2-3 ice cubes

Steps:

1. Grab that martini shaker and let's begin! Pour equal parts of orange juice, cranberry juice, and lemon seltzer into the shaker with three ice cubes.
2. Add a dash of sweet vermouth.
3. Follow up by putting the shaker top on and shake a couple of times, but not too much...you'll blow the top off with all the sizzle and fizz!
4. Use part of the orange to dampen the rim of the Martini glasses, then turn them upside down to "dust" them with a light coat of sugar you'll put onto a little plate.
5. Place the orange slice onto the sugared martini glass (see how great that looks?) and add some ice. Present to your guests and pour your "Morocco-tini" concoction over the ice. Watch them smile as they sip this refreshing, not too heavy, cocktail!
